This Health & Safety Policy outlines our commitment to creating and maintaining a safe working environment in full compliance with UK health and safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Work at Height Regulations 2005, and applicable HSE guidance. It defines the responsibilities of management and staff, explains our procedures, and highlights our proactive approach to risk management, training, and continuous improvement. 1. Policy Statement
Minnett Scaffolding Ltd is committed to maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, and welfare for all employees, contractors, clients, and the general public who may be affected by our operations. We recognise our legal and moral obligations under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Work at Height Regulations 2005, and other applicable UK legislation to provide a safe and healthy working environment.
Health and safety is at the core of everything we do, and we believe that all workplace injuries and ill-health are preventable.
2. Our Responsibilities
We will:
Provide and maintain safe and properly maintained scaffolding structures and equipment.
Ensure risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) are conducted for all activities, particularly those involving work at height.
Comply with all relevant UK legislation and industry best practice, including HSE guidelines and TG20:21 compliance for scaffolding.
Provide adequate training, instruction, supervision, and personal protective equipment (PPE) for all employees.
Maintain COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) compliance where applicable.
Consult with employees on matters affecting their health and safety.
Monitor, audit, and review our health and safety performance regularly to drive continuous improvement.
Report and investigate all incidents, near-misses, and unsafe practices promptly.
Appoint competent persons to oversee and implement this policy.
3. Employee Responsibilities
All employees and subcontractors are expected to:
Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others.
Cooperate with management in complying with statutory duties.
Use equipment safely and only for its intended purpose.
Report unsafe conditions, hazards, accidents, or near misses immediately.
Attend all relevant health and safety training.
Refrain from using drugs or alcohol that may impair judgement or performance while at work.
4. Training & Supervision
We provide regular training to ensure all workers are competent in:
Safe scaffold erection, alteration, and dismantling procedures.
Site-specific risk assessments and method statements.
Working safely at height and fall arrest systems.
Manual handling, equipment use, and relevant site safety protocols.
All scaffolders will be CISRS-certified and supervised as required depending on their level of training and experience.
5. Emergency Procedures
We maintain and regularly review emergency procedures, including:
First aid provision.
Fire risk assessment and evacuation plans.
Incident response plans.
Rescue plans for work at height.
6. Review & Monitoring
This policy will be reviewed at least annually or after any significant change in operations, legislation, or incident. Health and safety performance is monitored through audits, toolbox talks, and feedback from staff.
